Buffer vs Later: Which Fits Your Content in 2026

The short version
Buffer and Later both target creators and small businesses, but they split on pricing structure and, more importantly, on which platforms they actually cover. Buffer prices per channel: Essentials at $5 a month per channel, Team at $10, both billed annually. Later prices in flat tiers by "social set": Starter is $25 a month, Growth is $50, Scale is $110, on monthly billing, with roughly 25 percent off annually. Buffer or later comes down to how many channels you run and whether X/Twitter is one of them.
The platform gap that matters
Later dropped support for X (formerly Twitter) in August 2025. If you post to X as part of your regular mix, Later alone no longer covers it, full stop, regardless of which tier you pick. Buffer still supports X along with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Later's current lineup covers Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube Shorts, and Snapchat, notably adding Snapchat, which Buffer doesn't support.
Pricing at different scales
For a creator running three to five channels, Buffer's per-channel pricing (roughly $15 to $25 a month on Essentials) tends to undercut Later's flat $25 Starter tier, which caps you at one social set (eight profiles) regardless of how few you actually use. Later's value case improves at higher volume, since Growth and Scale bundle more social sets rather than charging per additional channel the way Buffer does past a certain point.
Where each one is actually built for
Later leans visually, its content calendar and Instagram grid preview tools are built around planning a cohesive visual feed, which makes it a natural fit for Instagram-heavy and Pinterest-heavy creators. Buffer is more platform-agnostic in feel, with a simpler, faster posting flow that doesn't assume a visual-first workflow.
If Snapchat and X both matter to you
Neither Buffer nor Later alone covers every platform a modern creator posts to (Buffer skips Snapchat, Later dropped X), which is exactly the kind of gap worth checking before you commit to either one. Posted Once schedules to 10 platforms, including X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky, Threads, Pinterest, and Google Business Profile, from Creator at $29 a month up to Pro at $99, each with a 7-day trial. It doesn't cover Snapchat, so if that's central to your strategy, weigh that against the X gap on Later before choosing. The Twitter scheduler and Instagram scheduler show how the rest of the platform list comes together in one calendar.
