How many hashtags should you use?
As of July 2026, Instagram allows a hard maximum of 5 hashtags per post or Reel. Instagram cut the limit from 30 to 5 in December 2025, and the 5 counts your caption and comments combined, so parking extra tags in a comment no longer works. The other platforms are about practice, not hard caps: 1 to 2 tags on X, 3 to 5 on TikTok, and 3 to 5 on LinkedIn tend to help discovery without looking spammy. This tool counts your tags, flags any duplicates (which waste a slot and look careless), and checks the unique count against each platform.
Clean up before you post
Paste a caption and you get a deduped hashtag string you can copy in one tap, with the first spelling of each tag kept and repeats removed. Duplicates are matched without case sensitivity, so #Travel and #travel count as the same tag. With Instagram's budget now just 5 tags, every duplicate is a wasted slot, so pick your five most specific, relevant tags and lead with them.
Common questions
What is the hashtag limit on Instagram? 5 per post as of July 2026, counting caption and comments together. Instagram cut it from 30 in December 2025, and going over blocks publishing or strips the extra tags.
Do duplicate hashtags hurt? They do not help, waste a slot, and can look low-effort, so this tool removes them for you.
How many hashtags on X or LinkedIn? Keep it to 1 to 2 on X and 3 to 5 on LinkedIn for the best balance of reach and readability.
