How to Edit or Reschedule a Scheduled Instagram Post

You can edit a scheduled Instagram post before it publishes, either from Meta Business Suite's Planner or from the "Scheduled content" screen inside the Instagram app itself, depending on where you originally scheduled it. Both let you change the caption, tags, location, and publish time up until the post goes live.

What you can still change after scheduling

Caption text, hashtags, tagged accounts, location tags, and the scheduled publish time are all editable before a post goes live. In Meta Business Suite specifically, you can also swap out the media itself, replacing an image or video without recreating the whole post from scratch.

What forces a full redo

Where things get less flexible is if you need to change the post type entirely, like converting a scheduled single-image post into a carousel, or a feed post into a Reel. Structural changes like that generally require deleting the scheduled post and creating a new one in the correct format, rather than editing in place.

A gotcha worth knowing: Business Suite and the app do not share a queue

A post scheduled through Meta Business Suite will not appear in the Instagram app's own "Scheduled content" section, and the reverse is also true. If you cannot find a post you know you scheduled, check whether you actually created it in the app versus Business Suite, since they keep separate lists.

How to reschedule an Instagram post

Open the scheduled post from wherever you created it, adjust the date and time, and save. This works the same way whether you are changing the time by ten minutes or pushing it back a week, and there is no limit on how many times you can adjust it before publication.

Avoiding last-minute edits altogether

Most edits come from scheduling in a hurry. Building out captions and visuals a few days ahead with an Instagram scheduler gives you room to catch mistakes with a fresh look before the post goes live, rather than fixing things under pressure. Posted Once keeps every scheduled Instagram post, along with your other nine platforms, in one visible queue. Sign up free to see it in action.
