If you've ever uploaded a photo to your listing only to watch it come out grainy, you already know google business profile photo size matters more than it should. That minimum of 250x250px is lower than most people expect, and it shows. A photo scraping the minimum will look soft on a phone screen, even though Google technically accepts it. Aim for the 720x720px recommendation as your actual floor, not the 250x250px minimum.

Google business profile photo requirements beyond dimensions

Size is only part of it. Google also wants photos that are in focus, well-lit, and free of heavy filters or text overlays, since the goal is showing customers what your business actually looks like, not a marketing graphic. Photos with watermarks, borders, or collages tend to get flagged or simply buried under better submissions from customers.

Square (1:1) is the safe default for your logo and cover photo specifically. For interior, exterior, and product photos, Google displays a wider range of aspect ratios without complaint, so you have more room to work with there than the strict 720x720px number suggests.

Gbp photo size and format, by photo type

Your logo and cover photo are the two spots where the 720x720px square recommendation matters most, since those display in fixed frames across Search and Maps. Additional photos (team, interior, products, at work) can be landscape or portrait and will display responsively, so don't force every image into a square crop just because that's the rule for your main two.

Why this actually affects clicks
